With so many cleanse colon kits around, you need to ensure that you are using a reputable brand and one that will achieve all the results you desire.

There are special herbs that can help clean-out the colon along with various diets and programs and other courses such as enemas and colon hydrotherapy.

Of course to delve deeper into the facts – you should always consult your local doctor to get more personal and detailed information to suit your situation.

Firstly, what exactly is a Colonic?

This another term for ‘colon or colonic hydrotherapy’. Basically what happens here, is a smallish tube is placed into your rectum and a few litres of filtered water is pushed slowly into your bowel passage and cleans out the unwanted materials.

The first question most people ask – what is the difference between a cleanse of the colon hydrotherapy treatment and say a standard enema?

While both these treatments focus solely on your colon, there are some important differences. (Both however do deal with liquids being inserted into the back passage)

A hydrotherapy based cleanse colon treatment will deal with entire area or region of the bowel. Enemas however only deal with the lower part of the colon, the sigmoid and areas of the descending colon.

The hydro treatment will involve several insertions of water into the colon. Enemas are based on a single insertion of water into the colon.

What about Digestive System Cleansing?

This digestive system cleanse is a good option for those new to a cleanse colon treatment, as a pre-cleanse before going without food (fasting), for people with limited problems or symptoms, or just for regular good bowel health. The course takes usually 2-3 weeks in duration.

Good treatments that can be used for an overall digestive system cleansing treatment, are outlined below:

(Be a little cautious of some home made colon cleanse recipes being touted without proper background and founded results.)

1. Activated charcoal

Activated charcoal sticks to intestinal (unwanted) toxins and harmful microbial growth elements and brings them out in the stools. 500-600 mg three times per day 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals and medication.

2. Bentonite clay

A treatment of bentonite clay involves some edible clay (not so nice tasting mind you!) that works in a similar way to a laxative by sucking in the water from your body to form a gel. It helps toxins stick together such as pesticides and from there more easily pushing them out of the colon.

Bentonite clay can be picked up from most good health stores. 1 tablespoon liquid bentonite a couple of times through a day – try to do it 60 minutes before or 120 minutes after main meals and after any other medication.

3. Psyllium

Psyllium is a dietary fiber that heavily assists good bowel operation. It cleans away the mucus sticking to the walls of the intestines and increases the size of your poo. 1 teaspoon psyllium powder three times per day. Stir psyllium into 8 oz water and drink straight away. Try to use with activated charcoal (best results) or if using bentonite, stir it into the psyllium water.

4. Probiotics

The digestive tract is a key region to maintain a balance of good and bad micro-organisms. Probiotics, a batch of all the good micro-organisms, has been a great tool for many years to help boost the amount of good bacteria and assist with many other health conditions. 1 capsule three times per day.

Try to keep up the probiotics for a few weeks even after the cleansing focus is over. When choosing a specific probiotics supplement: Remember these points -

The most seen strains of probiotics are Lactobacillus acidophilus for the small intestine and Bifidobacterium bifidum for the large intestine. Try to find a combination of the two strains.

Probiotics needs to be kept in the fridge BEFORE and AFTER opening (using)

Every single capsule usually has around 1 billion viable bacteria inside. The minimum therapeutic dose is recommended to be 108-109 cells each day. The more bacteria in each capsule or dose is even better, since the bacteria are needed to be kept alive during shelf life and then when you swallow the pill or dose, during travel through the body – the acidic conditions of the human stomach and hydrolytic enzymes and then the bile salts in the small intestine.

Other foods and herbs that can assist with a cleanse colon treatment are -

Cascara Sagrada

A herb found in many colon cleanse products.

Rhubarb

Rhubarb will be found in most digestive system cleaning programs. Be aware there may be some side effects by using rhubarb.

Senna

The herb senna another popular tool for good colon health and cleansing.
