If you have residue from old food stuck in your colon, then you should check out colon detoxing kits. In the Consumer Reports June issue, they discussed the claims of potential health benefits associated with colon cleansing. They concluded that a detox is not essential to good health because waste simply does not pile up in the colon in any way that would really need a full a flushing of your system.
Many manufacturers will claim that their products can clean the gunk out of your colon and large intestine. They will tell you that a detox with their products can cleanse your system, help prevent future buildup, eliminate harmful toxins and parasites that could be absorbed into your bloodstream.

The Colon Health Check-Up

Our investigators looked for credible, published research on this hot-button issue. We conducted interviews with medical experts and reviewed the data in the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, a third-party evaluator of natural products for ConsumerReportsHealth.org.

Colon Cleansing – The Bottom line

We did not find a significant amount of evidence stating that colon cleansers are effective or improve overall health. During our study we did find information that suggested these products could be unsafe if used to frequently. Overuse of enemas and laxatives could disrupt normal bowel movement or deplete your system of essential electrolytes.
In addition, experts agree that the idea of flushing our systems to increase overall health is implausible. American Gastroenterological Association spokesman Mark DeLegee, M.D., says that waste simply does not pile up in en masse in our intestines, nor does it spread toxins into our bloodstream. If your goal is to have regular bowel movements, DeLegee suggests eating foods high in fiber such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes.
